Krohn Conservatory (Cincinatti, OH)
You’d have to travel a good distance from Cincinnati to visit a rainforest and a desert – or you can go to Krohn Conservatory, Cincinnati Parks’ nationally recognized showcase of more than 3,500 plant species from around the world.
There are seveal large ecosystems located in the facility. You can walk through the rainforest and then continue on through the desert or on to another very large room filled from bottom to the top of the huge glass ceiling room with amazing plants and flowers. This place is absolutely stunning and worth the visit.
When you go, make sure you take a camera. This is a great place for pictures. I have often seen people taking special family, group or indvidual pictures around the different pathways.
Our “world” changes throughout the year with special exhibits and programs, including the ever-popular springtime “Butterfly Show,” where thousands of butterflies are let loose in a specially-themed garden. But you can always visit the rainforest waterfall and exotic plants on permanent display in the Palm, Tropical, Desert and Orchid houses.
Admission is FREE but donations are accepted.
Our family has visited the Conservatory several times over the past 8 years. Around Christmas season, they have a model railroad display, beautiful poinsettia plants and sometimes gingerbread houses.

This is one of my favorite places in Cincinnati! We always plan our visit around the butterfly exhibit and my kids love it. Of course I have to fight the urge to swat the butterflies away
I haven’t been there when they had the butterflies but I’ve heard amazing things about it! We’ve been a bunch of times around Christmas time though. If you have any pictures of the butterfly exhibit when you were there, I’d love to see them?
