I was talking to a recent high school graduate who told me this great couponing story. (She had just met me and had no idea I blog, coupon or talk about saving money all the time.)
She and her dad were watching TV and saw an episode of Extreme Couponing. Her dad made the comment that no one in the real world could actually be able to use coupons and get stuff free. This girl decided to take “the challenge”!
She spent the entire summer mastering the Rite Aid saving money policies and became an expert at saving money. It’s been over a year since that summer challenge and her family has just now run out of toothpaste.
How did she do it?
1. She masterd one store! That’s all. She found the store closest to her and learned everything she could about that store’s policies, coupon use requirements and rebate program.
2. She got organized. She told me she never got a binder or a coupon method. She just found the coupons she needed each week for the one store’s deals and got everything that was offered for free or really cheap.
I asked her if she still uses coupons. She said that when she has them she will still use them to save money, but for her it was a personel challenge and she just had to prove that she could do it.
By talking to her, I’m guessing her dad is glad he didn’t present a bigger challenge – This girl can conquer anything she put her mind to! What a great story!
