If you’ve been following saving money blogs long, you’ve probably heard about Thred up. But if you haven’t checked it our recently, you’ve missed some serious improvements to their online store.
Here’s how it works:
For buyers:
If you are looking for clothes for your kids, you can log in to Thred up and just start browsing. You can select boy or girl, and specify the size you are looking for. Each item available in that size will be shown in individual pictures with the price and description. You can add the items to your cart and then decide what you want to actually buy.
I was given a $20 limit to go shopping. I picked 2 items: a Ralph Lauren Sweater for my 10 year old son and a long sleeve Children’s Place green striped shirt for my 5 year old son. Both items arrived in great condition.
About the prices: If you are used to shopping for your kids clothes at yard sales with yard sale prices, you won’t initailly like Thred Up. However, here’s the reason Thred Up is meeting a huge need for parents. Yard Sales are always hit or miss. You never know what you will find. You usually have to sort through huge piles of clothes in assorted sizes. You have to actually go out and find the sales. Thred Up gives you the convenience of browsing through gently used clothes that are already sorted by size and gender from the comfort of your couch at any time of night or day.
Shipping
Shipping is a flat $6.95 for orders under $40; Free for orders over $40.
For the seller
You simply order a bag from Thred Up (you will need to pay a deposit for the bag, but it is fully refunded after they recieve your bag.) Then you fill it up as full as possible with the clothes your children have outgrown. Once Thred Up receive your bag they will pay you via Paypal or offer you credit to do some more shopping.
